Ask

Ask and it shall be given.

Matthew and Luke record the words of Jesus here. These two recount in almost the same wording this promise of Jesus.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Luke 11:9 KJV 1900
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Matthew 7:7 KJV 1900
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Luke 11:9 KJV 1900
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Matthew 7:7 KJV 1900
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

How to ask

We must Ask Believing

Jesus instructs us that all things we ask for in prayer, believing we will receive. ,
Matthew 21:22 KJV 1900
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

We must Ask in His Name

Jesus tells us that whatever we ask in his name we will recieve. , ,
John 14:13–14 KJV 1900
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 15:16 KJV 1900
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
John 16:23–24 KJV 1900
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
John 14:13 KJV 1900
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14 KJV 1900
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
John 15:16 KJV 1900
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
John 16:23 KJV 1900
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
John 16:24 KJV 1900
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

We must Ask according to his will.

in 1 John we find that to have answered prayer we must pray according to God’s will.
1 John 5:14–15 KJV 1900
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

How not to Ask.

Many time our prayers go unanswered. Or we feel that they were unanswered. I believe God answers all request made by his children.
For sake of argument, why would God not answer our prayers?

We ask “amiss”.

says that the reason we dont recieve is because we ask amiss. The word “amiss” is defined as “a mistaken way, or a faulty way”
James 4:3 KJV 1900
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

We ask “Doubting”.

tells us to have faith doubting not and believing.
Matthew 21:21–22 KJV 1900
Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

We ask “Faithless’.

says that if we had the faith of a mustard seed that nothing would be impossible.
Matthew 17:20 KJV 1900
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

We ask “Double-minded”.

In we are told that we receive not because of being double minded. Double minded is when we believe in our minds one thing and in our hearts something different.
James 1:6–8 KJV 1900
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
